Rosewood is a tropical hardwood known for its distinctive grain, warm reddish tone, and sweet aroma. Not only is it one of the world's most beautiful woods, but its stability and dense grain make it ideal for furniture. Working with such a fine material has always been challenging to craftsmen wanting to create a product that will last as long as the wood itself. At Watana we offer you that product. Furniture that will withstand the rigors of time yet age with a beautiful richness in color and character. |
| Our furniture is made entirely of solid Rosewood, even the back panels are thick cuts of premium Rosewood. No veneer, particle board or plywood is ever used in any of the pieces that we sell. The Rosewood is kiln dried over a long period of time so that it will easily accept any climate with little or no expansion or contraction. Built-in expansion chambers, a three-way mitered double-locking mortise and tenon with a floating panel, provide all the flexibility for the little movement that may occur. | ![]() |

Assembly is done solely with the use of intricate wood joints. There are no screws or bolts that may loosen over time. This type of construction takes more time but the result is extraordinary longevity. Any of the carving that you see is indeed done by hand, which is quite an elaborate technique in itself. When you combine this with the idea that each piece of furniture has its own unique and magnificent grain, you can see how these are truly functional works of art by both nature and man. |
| The only material used in finishing is a natural lacquer, collected from the "Lacquer Tree" indigenous to China. Seven coats of lacquer are applied over a two-week period with sanding between each coat. The result is an incredibly heat and stain proof surface requiring only minimum care. The natural quality of the finish allows it to mature with age and wear, so that when the products of today become the antiques of tomorrow, the sun-bleached gold of the Rosewood will be enhanced by the patina of the natural lacquer. | ![]() |
